Chog Boat Scarfing Jig

To do scarfing on a table saw first you will need a 10" table saw with at least a 2hp motor. Attach a 3/4" x 8" x 36" plywood fence to the saw fence using two "flush mounting" bolts. Fabricate a guide using 3/4" x 2" x 44" and 3/4" x 3" x 44" pieces for wood. Hold guide together using a couple of screws and some glue. Fasten guide to the piece of plywood to by scarfed. "C" clamps work fine for this. Set the table saw blade to six degrees for and eight to one scarf. Seven degrees will give you roughly a seven to one ratio. Use a finger board to stabilize the sheet as if feeds through the saw. Having a second person around to help guide is recommended. Make a test joint first using some scrap wood.

When finished with the cuts, attach the two pieces of plywood together and coat both sides of the scarf joint with 2 coats of epoxy resin. Follow this with a layer of thickened epoxy (use col silica)

This is the most efficient method of cutting scarfs I have found.
